Bryna (Rina) Bogoch

Bryna (Rina) Bogoch is a Senior Lecturer at the Departments of Political Studies, Communications Division, and Interdisciplinary Social Science Studies at Bar Ilan University. From her dissertation from the Hebrew University analyzing the language of lawyer-client interaction in a legal aid office, she continued studying and publishing on the topic of language and the law while expanding her research interests to a variety of socio-legal issues. She was senior researcher in a large-scale study funded by the Ford Foundation of gender bias in the Israeli Courts, which was published by the Jerusalem Institute for Israel Research (with Rochelle Don-Yechiye). Her research has been supported by grants from the Israel Science Foundation and the Israel Foundation Trustees. Among the topics she has studied are : the media coverage of the Supreme Court in Israel (with Yifat Holzman-Gazit); gender, power and the professional practice in family law, which examined the use and gender implications of mediation and litigation among divorce legal professionals (with Ruth Halperin-Kaddari); and currently, the implications of the use of computerized databases for the practice of family law in Israel (with Ruth Halperin-Kaddari and Eyal Katvan). She has published in many law and society journals, including the Law and Society Review, Law and Social Inquiry, Law and Policy, the International Journal of the Legal Profession and the International Journal of the Sociology of Law. She has also been a visiting scholar at the Center for Socio-Legal Studies at Oxford University, the Center for the Study of Law and Society at the University of California at Berkeley, and the Department of Sociology at the University of Cape Town.
